Twelve Steps to A More Compassionate Life Reading Group
with Jennifer O'Sullivan
March 2011 - February 2012
3:30 - 5:00 pm
"We have a natural capacity for compassion as well as for cruelty. We can either emphasize those aspects of our traditions, religious or secular, that speak of hatred, exclusion, and suspicion, or work with those that stress the interdependence and equality of all human beings. The choice is ours." -- Karen Armstrong, from the Preface to Twelve Steps to a More Compassionate Life
Pure Prana Yoga studio is hosting a special reading group to study Karen Armstrong’s "Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life." Exploring one chapter at a time, the group will meet monthly on a Sunday 3:30-5:00pm.
As part of an international effort to activate the Golden Rule globally, we will join reading groups around the world to foster a greater understanding of compassion, and to promote the cultivation and practice of compassion in individual and community life.
TED prize-winner Karen Armstrong believes that while compassion is intrinsic in all human beings, each of us needs to work diligently to cultivate and expand our capacity for compassion. In Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life, Armstrong offers concrete ways of putting compassion into action in our everyday lives.
Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life Reading Groups are affiliated with the Charter for Compassion. The Charter for Compassion is a TED Prize project in collaboration with the Fetzer Institute.
